Angel Falls

Salto Ángel / Kerepakupai Merú

Water leaves the flat top of Auyán-tepui and falls so far that much of it atomizes into mist before ever reaching the pool below, a journey longer than the height of most skyscrapers stacked twice over. Only reachable by light aircraft to Canaima and then a dugout canoe up the Río Carrao.

Angel Falls drops 979 metres (3212 ft) on the Kerep, inside Canaima National Park. It is a plunge-type fall, and the nearest base for a visit is Canaima, with CAJ the closest airport. Access to the main viewpoint is rated moderate.

June-October wet season keeps the drop flowing continuously; in the dry months it can thin to spray before reaching the ground.
